HCEP cells are normal human corneal epithelial progenitor cells cryopreserved at an early passage. They can be cultured in several fully defined epithelial media, with CnT‑NX‑E or CnT‑NX‑EX recommended as primary options, and CnT‑PR, CnT‑07, or CnT‑57 available as alternatives.
Because this material is of human origin, it must be handled as hazardous. Although tested negative for HIV‑1, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C, the cells should be treated as potentially infectious. Appropriate biocontainment procedures, protective equipment, and safety precautions are required to avoid accidental exposure.
When cultured in fully defined, next‑generation CnT‑NX‑E medium, HCEP cells benefit from the presence of PCT factors that help maintain proliferative progenitors and delay differentiation. This supports sustained growth and preserves the cells’ functional capacity for extended periods.
The cells are supplied cryopreserved in CRYO‑Defined medium to ensure high recovery and viability after thawing.
