Description

CnT‑GAB‑5 is a convenient, ready‑to‑use antibiotic/antimycotic supplement designed to provide broad and stable protection against microbial contamination during primary cell isolation and passage 1. Supplied as a sterile 500× concentrate in single‑use aliquots, it contains gentamycin sodium salt and amphotericin B (Fungizone). When diluted to working concentration, the medium contains 10 µg/mL gentamycin and 0.25 µg/mL amphotericin B.
Traditional antibiotics such as penicillin/streptomycin are not ideal for routine cell culture due to their instability. Gentamycin offers several advantages, including a broader effective antimicrobial spectrum, higher thermo‑stability at 37 °C, longer shelf life, and greater resistance to acidic or alkaline conditions, retaining more than 90% activity for up to two weeks.
CnT‑GAB‑5 provides dependable contamination protection during the critical early stages of cell establishment. However, antibiotics should only be used during isolation and passage 1. Their use in later passages, and particularly during challenging processes such as differentiation, is not recommended because they may interfere with normal cell behavior.
