CnT-Spacer Plate, 12-Well, Reusable

The CnT‑SP Spacer Plate is a reusable spacer made from medical‑grade acrylic and designed to fit directly on top of standard 12‑well plates. Its purpose is to lift cell culture inserts during air‑lift culture, thereby increasing the volume of medium beneath each insert. This expanded medium reservoir enables a convenient Monday–Wednesday–Friday medium‑change schedule while still supporting optimal epithelial stratification.
During air‑lift culture, medium volume is a critical factor in determining the quality and stability of the developing epithelial model. Standard 12‑well plates typically accommodate only around 0.5 mL of medium per insert, depending on the manufacturer. At such low volumes, daily medium changes— including weekends—are required to maintain appropriate nutrient levels and model integrity.
While deep‑well plates can increase medium volume, they are significantly more expensive and generally require very large quantities of medium per insert. The CnT‑SP Spacer Plate provides a practical and cost‑effective alternative by elevating the inserts within a standard 12‑well plate, thereby achieving a larger medium volume without the need for specialized deep‑well equipment.
The Spacer Plate can be used with a variety of epithelial cell types grown at the air‑liquid interface to generate stratified epithelial sheets. It is fully reusable and can be sterilized simply by soaking in alcohol prior to use.
