HPEKas are normal human epidermal keratinocyte progenitor cells isolated from adult donor material and cryopreserved at an early passage. They are compatible with several fully defined epithelial media, with CnT‑NX‑E or CnT‑NX‑EX recommended as primary options, and CnT‑PR, CnT‑07, or CnT‑57 available as alternatives.
Because the cells are of human origin, they must be handled as potentially hazardous. Although tested negative for HIV‑1, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C, they should be treated as potentially infectious, and appropriate biocontainment, protective equipment, and safety procedures must be followed to prevent accidental exposure.
When cultured in the fully defined, next‑generation CnT‑NX‑E medium, HPEKas benefit from the presence of PCT factors that support retention of proliferative progenitors and delay differentiation. This extends the lifespan of the culture and preserves the cells’ ability to perform complex processes such as 3D differentiation over an extended period.
The cells are supplied cryopreserved in CRYO‑Defined medium to maximize recovery and viability following thawing.
